Welcome to 1886 Cricket:
Home of the greatest amateur international cricket rivalry between teams from England and India.

About us
In the year 1886 the Parsee community were the first team to tour England from India and in 2016 we commemorated the 130th Anniversary of that historic tour with the creation of the 1886 Trophy.
We played that social T20 fixture at the iconic Parsee Gymkhana, Marine Drive, Mumbai, on 12th November 2016. Fast forward to today and we're on the cusp of our 10th Anniversary and fast approaching the 140th Anniversary of that historic tour of England by the Parsee pioneers of cricket in India.

Charles Alcock XI
Fondly known as the 'Cockers', we are named after a man known in some circles as the 'Father of Modern Sport'.
Charles W Alcock was secretary of Surrey County Cricket Club from 1872 until his death in 1907. He not only founded the FA Cup (and led his Wanderers side to victory in the first final in 1872), but was also the man who brought the Australians to the Oval in 1880 when the MCC refused to host them. He again invited them for a Test match in 1882, which was famous for the obituary that followed - mourning the death of English cricket - and sparked the beginning of the Ashes.
Charles Alcock was pivotal in that original tour of England by the Parsees and revered by the Parsee cricket community. We honour his contribution by taking his name and playing in Surrey CCC colours.
1886 Trophy
The 1886 Trophy is played annually between the Parsee Gymkhana, Mumbai and the Charles Alcock XI (the Cockers), Surrey.
The 1886 Trophy Aims & Objectives:
-
Celebrate the Parsee pioneers of Cricket in India
-
Honour the part that Charles Alcock and Surrey County Cricket Club played in that foundational tour for cricket in India
-
Build bonds and lasting friendship through cricket between the two nations of the UK and India
-
Celebrate the Spirit of Cricket through enjoyably competitive cricket

"As artists go to Italy to do homage to the great masters; as pilgrims go to Jerusalem to worship at a shrine, so now the Parsees are going to England to do homage to the English cricketers, to learn something of that noble and manly pastime in the very country which is its chosen home."
Indian politician Sir Pherozeshah Mehta to the gathered Parsee tourists on the eve of their departure to England
